What should I wear for a Personal Brand Shoot?

At a personal brand shoot you will want to fit in as many outfits as possible to showcase all of the different roles that you play in your life…. work, hobbies, professional, etc. In one hour, you would likely be able to use 2-3 outfits and 4-6 outfits if your shoot is two hours or more. The upside of having so many clothing options is that you will have so much variety in your images that when you post to social media, the images will look like they came from multiple days of photoshoots instead of just one. Another positive is that if you have a difficult time making decisions, you can include several options instead of narrowing the clothing choices completely down. Also, if your photographer is capturing images you planned quicker than the scheduled timeline, you will have backup outfit choices to use. It’s better to have too many outfits ready to use than not enough.

At a typical personal brand shoot, you’ll want to show many different facets of your time. When planning a shoot with a cosmetologist, we included time for professional but personality-packed headshots in my studio, photos at her salon where she did a mock haircut for behind-the-scenes footage plus scheduling, photos of her shopping because that’s her favorite hobby, as well as different accessories she especially loves that make her unique (the Kate Spade bag, special earrings, her perfume, etc.) She also wanted to highlight these accessories because she often participated in social media Q/A for fashion and style.

For her clothing options, it was important to her to go classic and timeless so that the photos could be used for years. However, her version of a neutral is glitter so we needed to add in pops of fun. Galyn chose to use basic t’s but layer with denim, leather, and fur as well as glittery shoes to add some elements of surprise. You would never know she only wore two outfits by looking at her gallery. By switching up the layers: jackets, pants, and accessories, she was able to create quite an eclectic look!

Now that we’ve discussed what to wear at a personal brand shoot, let’s see photos from the very talented cosmetologist I mentioned above.
